Born in Koenigsberg, Leni fled East Germany in 1959. True self photographer, she was hired by Wayne State University and met the musician and poet John Sinclair, with whom she married in 1964. Fascinated by the counter culture movement that takes place in Detroit in the 60s the couple founded « the Artist’s workshop » designed to receive and collect the talents of this movement. Poets, writers and musicians express themselves through their works including Jimmy Hendrix, Iggy Pop, John Lennon, The Who, and Janis Joplin. Still active, Leni stays a mystery, pretending to present her work is nothing else than symbolic. Who will speak …? When the image destabilizes sound, Leni captures Jazz

« No other photographer has managed to capture the intensity, creativity, the spirit of the music scene of the 60s and 70s at the height of Detroit » – dixit Cary Loren.
